B-Anon category – Bailey goes for a walk

“Who writes that kinda thing, Boba?” Bailey finished the final page of The Sick Box and closed the washroom door behind her. She tossed the book onto the counter and yawned. Other than peeing and reading the note Jimmy left for her, she had been in bed since she fell asleep last night. “What nonsense. Good thing it was short. I’m starving.” Bailey picked up the cell phone she found in the woods and started looking up food delivery apps. “What am I doing?” She tossed the phone back on the countertop. “Nobody is delivering anything out here.” She opened the refrigerator door. It was empty.

Boba scratched at the front door.

“You wanna go for a walk?” Bailey asked, shutting the fridge.

Boba ran to her and pawed at her legs.

“Hold on. Let me get dressed,” Bailey said as she waddled to her suitcase to gather her clothes. “Whatta you think about that book, Boba? Cults? Exorcists? A demon named Karen working in an office in Hell?”

After Bailey dressed, she waddled to her shoes, squeezed them on her feet, and grabbed Boba’s leash.

“ . . .” Boba danced around Bailey, whining with excitement.

“I mean, what kind of wacko even writes something like that?” She snapped the leash on Boba’s collar. “Maybe we can find somewhere to eat.”

Bailey and Boba stepped outside of the VIP cabin and started walking. They found a pathway through the forest. In the distance, they could hear Christmas carols playing, see the Ferris wheel turning, and hear the screams of excitement coming from the roller coaster.

“Are we seriously going to live in an amusement park?” Bailey asked as they walked. “You gotta talk to my brother, Boba. He might listen to you.” Boba trotted along the path until he found a nice tree. He stopped to sniff and pee. “‘Cause he sure as shit isn’t listening to me. I think he respects your opinion more than he does mine.”

Boba scratched at the earth.

Bailey kept talking. “Seems like a bunch of crap to me,” she said. “Possession, exorcisms, demons. I mean, a demon trapped in the body of a rabbit named Karen. Can you imagine? Why does everybody hate on people named Karen? It’s absurd.” Bailey took a long step to avoid a mound of dog poo. “Do you remember, Boba? Didn’t Charles mention someone named Karen when he picked us up?”

Boba sniffed a dandelion and then peed on it.

“Yeah, I think he did. I was so tired. He was talking about someone named Karen. Wasn’t he? And the guy in the book was even named Charles. Don’t you think that’s weird? The guy in the book had a speech impediment, too, like Charles. Sounds like he has a cold all the time. But the guy in the book wasn’t too bright. He was like a clown, dimwitted, I think is the word the author used. Our Charles is really together. Still, it seems like a weird coincidence.”

The pathway rose. “Let’s find another path, Boba.
